Volvo’s
first Sport Utility Vehicle. This Sport Utility
vehicle is wrapped in lots of extra safety features.
The upscale XC90 has anti-rollover system, reinforced
roof and side-curtain air bags. It accommodates
seven people, all with the same high standard
of protection. One of the Volvo's unique safety
features in the stabilisation system known as
RSC (Roll Stability Control), which interacts
with the car’s ordinary stability system (DSTC),
contributes to this by providing protection against
rollover.
Should
the car nevertheless overturn, an efficient safety
system known as ROPS (Rollover Protection System)
intervenes to prevent the occupants from impact
with the roof and sides of the car. Volvo will
also use high-strength Boron steel in the XC90's
roof, reinforcing the occupant cage in the event
of a rollover. Passengers also get extra protection
from side-curtain air bags that extend to all
three rows of seating on both sides.
The
Volvo SUV is also kinder to smaller vehicles in
the event of a crash. The imbalance between SUVs
and cars has been a major concern in side-impact
crashes, where traditional SUVs with higher bumpers,
have been known to penetrate cars' passenger compartments.
The XC90 has a bar that extends below the bumper
that is engineered to transfer the force of a
crash to a car's structural frame, protecting
the car's passengers from more serious injury.
The
Volvo XC90 is obviously equipped with four-wheel
drive and is available with the option of a 200
or 272 HP.
