The Honda Shadow refers to a family of motorcyles
made by Honda since 1983. The Honda Shadow is a
cruiser type motorcycle, meaning it has an upright
riding position and wide handle bars, this makes
it more comfortable than a sportsbike, although
the lack of fairings mean the rider is exposed to
the wind. The cruisers come in many flavors including
the Spirit, Aero, Sabre, VLX, and VLX Deluxe. Engine
sizes range from 125cc to 1800cc. A characteristic
engine for the shadow is a Honda VT1100 liquid-cooled,
45-degree V-twin with shaft drive. Many attribute
the longevity of the Shadow class to its shaft drive.
The
Shadow is available in several sizes, ranging
from leaner 125cc model, to a monstrous 1800cc.
All Shadows are equipped with V-twin engines.
The top speed of a 2001 Shadow 125cc, for example,
is an impressive 80 mph. The series was originally
introduced as a replacement for the Honda Rebel
series, though the Rebel 250cc and 450cc are still
produced.
