The
name Maserati refers to the seven Maserati brothers
who all in some way contributed to the creation
of this great car. The Corporation Maserati came
into being during a race in 1926 when one of the
brother's raced a Maserati-produced car. Maserati
stayed with racing rather succesfuly and made
tools in between races for funding. The Maserati
symbol came to being after Mario Maserati sketched
a symbol for their company and had a string of
really good races after building production racer.
Maserati
has been known for their GT cars and their plush
and consequently expensive line of grand touring
sedans fit for a king, or the shaw of Persia who
fancied them enough to own several. Maserati also
made a few mid engined super cars such as the
Bora and a fast coupe and small sedan series named
the Biturbo.
Since
the 1980's, Maserati has completely changed their
ideas for making cars. Maseratis were known for
their racing success and outrageously expensive
coupes and ultra plush GT sedan cars that only
the rich and famous could afford. Today, Maseratis
are much more mass produced, but still really
expensive.
Maserati's
line up in the late 80's to mid 90's consisted
of seriously fast coupes and sedans and a short
wheelbase spyder version. Interestingly enough,
all of these cars shared the same chassis and
drive train with only differences in engine size.
