The
Acura Legend was Motor Trends car of the year
when it was first released in 1987. However, the
Legend Sedan was released one year earlier in
1986. An interesting fact most people don't know
about is that the Sterling (made in the late 80's)
was actually an Acura Legend. The Sterling had
the same engine and the design had minor differences.
The
car began it's run in 1986 but ended it in 1995
with a SE or special edition model. This car is
one of only a few coupes to have power windows
in the rear. This was a characteristic found on
many old Impalas and Mustangs. The Styling of
the Acura Legend was very popular and many cars
are going back to it again today. The engine's
durability keeps many Legends going over 200k
miles with no problems.
The
car was powered by 2.5L 90 degree 24 valve all-aluminum
V6 delivering 151HP. The engine is a jewel in
itself. The Acura Legend was later renamed and
styled to fit current needs. The fans of the originial
Legend do not like the new one. With good reason.
The
new car is bigger, the ride is floaty and not
well controlled, the engine a 3.5L convential
V6 putting out 215HP. That is 15HP less than previoud
generation TYPE II powerplant! The transmition
is a 4-speed automatic - something that has been
abandoned by almost all reputable companies years
ago.
