The
Hummer is the civilian counterpart to the rugged
military HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled
Vehicle - pronounced HumVee). These vehicles are
like no other in the world. They're not quite
trucks, they're not SUVs... they're just Hummers.
But in 1991 the "Humvee" as nicknamed by soldiers
was finally allowed to be sold to the public allowing
non military personnel to experience the ultimate
off road vehicle available out there.
Hummers are capable of crossing streams
up to two-and-a-half-feet deep and scaling ledges
up to 18 inches high. So, you can see that most
people will not NEED this kind of power - but,
most will WANT this kinda power. Just think of
how envious your friends will be.
The Turbo Diesel will produce enough power
to attain cruising speed nicely. The speedometer's
top speed says 100 mph but I think 85 is more
realistic....this isn't a sportscar by any stretch
of the imagination.
Power
comes from a turbodiesel V8 engine that produces
195 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. All Hummers
feature 16 inches of ground clearance and come
standard with an automatic transmission, full-time
4WD, power windows and door locks, air conditioning,
an AM/FM stereo cassette, and an auxiliary fuel
tank. Options include a trailer-towing system,
cruise control, a heated windshield, a Monsoon
sound system with CD player, and a unique Central
Tire Inflation System. A 12,000 lb.-capacity winch,
run-flat tires and a brush guard are also available
options.
