Ford is experimenting with the 'retro' theme once
more, this time its a "hyper-smooth" concept car
known as 49. Named after the 1949 model-year classic
American Ford, it is based around the new Thunderbird.
The Forty-Nine is rear-wheel-drive and has a 3.9-litre
V8 with an automatic gearbox for easy cruising.
The
firm's stylists aimed for simple shapes, clean body
panels and a smooth appearance; the last of these
helped by an all-glass upper body structure which
manages to totally conceal the pillars and wipers.
