The
entry-level Porsches are 2-seat convertibles with
a midmounted, horizontally opposed 6-cyl engine.
Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, side airbags, and
power soft top are standard. A removable hardtop
is optional. The Boxster is the fastest selling
Porsche in history and it's easy to see why. The
base 2.7-liter Boxster comes with a 5-speed manual
transmission, the more powerful 3.2 S a 6-speed;
both offer an optional 5-speed automatic with manual-shift
steering-wheel buttons. The S also has larger brakes,
firmer suspension, dual exhausts, and 17-inch wheels
instead of 16s; 18s are available for both.
The Boxster delivers a well-balanced
weight distribution, solid chassis construction,
and incredibly precise steering. Add to all that
it's beautiful, curvaceous styling, a slick gearbox,
and legendary Porsche heritage, and you have a package
that is hard to beat. With a base price of under
$42,000 and the cachet of driving a Porsche, what
more can a guy ask for?
With all the necessary elements of style,
performance and quality in place- and a price tag
that isn't through the stratosphere like Porsche
of the past- it's no surprise that the Boxster is
selling the way it is. And there is nothing like
the feeling of saying you drive a Porsche. As pretentious
as it may sound, we all know we would love the feeling
of being a Porsche owner. |
